Christian Persecution Under Emperor Marcus Aurelius (161–180)

Marcus Aurelius ruled as emperor for nineteen years, from 161 to 180. In the 100s, emperors treated Christianity primarily as a local problem. However, Aurelius was convinced that Christianity was a dangerous revolutionary force and the number and severity of Christian persecutions in various regions of Asia Minor (modern Turkey) increased during his rule.
